Last night my brother came over because he was going to put in a new door to go between our garage and finished part of our basement. It was my birthday/graduation/house warming present.
When we took the present door off, we realized the board the threshold was sitting on was completely rotted out. So we took a little dry wall off next to the door and realized there was alot of rotting wood, there was mold, there was shotty cover-up construction.
So we took off the bottom half of the drywall all along the wall. It turns out that the houses main support beam is not only rotting itself at the bottom, but it's also sitting on a completely rotted piece of wood as well. There were also gaps in the dry wall where we could see into the laundry room behind the furnace, which explains why we can't seem to keep the spiders out.
We've taken lots of pictures, we got out our house disclosure, and we called our real estate agent. We are going to sue. And if that goes nowhere, we are going to take it to the media that a couple who was just wanting to buy a new starter home that needed a little bit of love has gotten more than they bargained for and the real estate agent (who also happened to be the man that owned the house) cut corners and gave a bad deal to try to sell a house in a bad market. The amount of money this is going to take to fix is not an amount of money we have.
I'm so upset I just want cry.
